Vacation A vacation by definition is a break from your normal routine. My excessively demanding schedule left me totally worn out so our trip was a welcomed blessing. It was a “Family” vacation this year and it had been many years since I had seen anyone. Northern weather was kind and I got to enjoy plenty of fresh air, relaxing locations and good company everywhere we went. I arrived home refreshed and ready to resume responsibilities. Thanks Everyone!!!! I needed that. ~ Me |
Family Life in Florida continues to be Sunday night dinners with Wendy and her family and their friends. Tripp is of course thrilled now that their dog Bandit shows up every week now for a few hours of romp and frolic…both dogs really sleep good Sunday nights, wears me out just to watch them! Aaron hits the computer raising his head only for food. The girls Emma and her friend Shanna amuse themselves with various electronic devices. The cats head for the bedroom seeking serenity and safety. Plenty of good food brings us all together at the table for conversations and laughter, reminiscent of those many Sunday night dinners growing up…the good things don’t devalue with age. ~ Me |

Warren The trip back was uneventful and life continued on here through the fall - until a sunny afternoon in October when my world stopped turning. I received a phone call from one of Carol's students telling me that Carol had gotten very sick while teaching and she wanted me to come get her. She did not want them to call 911. I told them that I was on the way and that if she did not improve or if it got worse call 911 anyhow. When i arrived the EMT's were there and were preparing her for transport. We went to the closest hospital and she was diagnosed as having a heart attack. An immediate trip to the Cath Lab resulted in a stent being placed in the main artery on the right side of her heart. The artery was 100% blocked. A day and a half later she was released with follow-ups scheduled for January. She still has issues but we must wait for the next series of tests to determine a plan of action. If anything can be good about a heart attack we experienced it. She was out in public when it occurred, the people called 911, when she arrived at the hospital there was a cardiac intervention team there that had her in the cath lab within thirty minutes of her arrival and were able to open the artery fast enough that there is no permanent damage. Had this been a normal day where she was home it very likely would have been fatal. To say that this Christmas is special to me would be an understatement. I look forward to seeing all of you in the future. My goals for 2013 are to continue to enjoy my life, play a lot of golf and never forget how fast things can change. Merry Christmas all. ~Warren |
So really I guess it was a typical sort of year. You might say, full of surprises. But quite typical, everyday people too. I got a new car, not the deep purple blue Mustang my heart would have chosen, but a Honda Insight hybrid that is ever so much more practical. No matter how you look at it, fifty five m ioles to the gallon around town is not to be sneezed at! We replaced the hot water heater, the freezer, and joined the smart phone generation. Fortunately we are both still smart enough to survive in this high tech world…..for now anyhow. I look forward to the rest of the holiday season and time to sit by my hearth and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate in front of a cozy fire in the fireplace…..and bask in a state of gratitude. For now though, our live tree is up but there are packages to wrap, a fire to light, and candles to burn. (This year I promise to get the tree down by Valentines day...honest! The On line version of this letter can be found on my website, www.carolfrye.com on Christmas Day. Go to the Links page, all the way at the end click on “Friends and Family. You will find a great E-Card, more text and plenty more photographs. Enjoy! Life is Good!!! Carol and Warren Frye |
